Fashion Trends That Midlife Women Can ROCK!

Gail Scott: Beauty & Fashion Kuel Category Expert

We often see new trends and think “no way”! And that is sometimes justified.

However, many style trends that are hot right now work well for us without appearing that we are mourning our teenage years. If a trend doesn’t work for you, you might tweak it for a more mature look. Look for a nod to the look, or even the historical period where the look originated for options.

Let’s Look At Some Trends That Are Hot Right Now:

MONOCHROMATIC DRESSING– Head-to-toe color can be worn by anyone and when the color is right it is oh so chic!

GRAPHIC TEES-Show your personality and preferences with a graphic t. They are fun and allow you to express yourself. Throwback concert shirts and retro references are a fun nod to our past.

BOLD COLOR– If you have decided to go gray, this one can be a definite winner. We may need a little more color to brighten our look. If you don’t know which one to choose, find a specialist who can give you a reference chart to use when you shop.

JOGGERS-This modern version of the athletic pant can be casual or dressy. Comfy and easy, make sure to choose the right length to get the look; the pants should not pool up at the ankle. Pair with a cool sweatshirt or sweater, a graphic t and blazer, or even a crisp partially tucked dress shirt.

FLARE/WIDE LEGS-This all comes down to finding the perfect size and cut. The taller that you are, the bigger the flare can be. They add a lot of drama to your look and look great with a pointed toe flat or heel. If you aren’t comfortable with your mid-section, just choose a longer top and still get the look. Flares are a great part of a monochromatic outfit.

Place To Show Your Style:

CITY SNEAKERS-Comfort and style, what’s not to love? You can find them in all colors and materials. This is another place to show your style. Choose suede, brightly colored, or embellished to give your feet a pop. Pair them with dress slacks, jeans, joggers, the choice is yours!

SWEATER DRESSING-These aren’t the cheap and tight looks of the past. The textures are rich, the knits are lush, and the look is upscale. Warm and cozy, this look makes the perfect outfit for cold Winter days. Dress them up or down with shoes and accessories.

PERIWINKLE– Pantone’s color of the year, this looks great with gray hair. If you need more pop, look for more purple versions, if you need soft, look for versions with a gray undertone. Pair with other pastels or ground it with black or dark gray.

LAYERED, CHUNKY, JEWELRY-Ladies, raid your jewelry box! We have the advantage here, years of collected treasures and it’s time to wear them. Layer them up, more is better!

Breaking The Old Rules:

WHITE & CLUNKY BOOTS-Combat style and lug sole boots are a rage right now. If you don’t want full-on combat, go for the lug sole, a chunkier look, or a pull-on nod to the combat style. And choose white! White boots are red hot and add a fun quirkiness by breaking the old rules.

CROP TOPS-This one makes me shudder, but there are ways to wear it that are appropriate and stylish. Try layering a shorter sweater or sweatshirt over a crisp white shirt, or choose an option that meets the waistband of your bottoms

So there you go ladies! I’d love to hear which ones you are rocking right now and how you have adapted them to suit your taste.
