Declutter To Reinvent: Cat Coluccio
Itโs that time of year again! The leaves are changing colour, the weather is cooling down, and pumpkin spice everything is back in stores.
4 Reasons Why Getting Rid Of Clutter Is Good For The Soul:
โGetting rid of unnecessary stuff feels liberating and can help you to feel lighter and more free.โ
As the seasons change, many of us find ourselves wanting to change things up at home too. After all, thereโs something about a fresh start that just feels so good โ right? As well, Autumn heralds the coming of the holiday season, which makes it the perfect time to spruce up your home ready for guests.
If youโre considering giving your home a little refresh this Autumn, why not start with a good old-fashioned declutter before picking up those cleaning products? Youโll find that not only do you end up with a lovey, spacious house, youโll also be amazed at how good your soul feels.
Read on for four reasons why getting rid of clutter at this time of year is good for the soul.
1. It Feels Good to Get Rid Of Unnecessary Stuff:
We all have stuff that we donโt need and donโt use. But for some reason, we canโt seem to get rid of it. Maybe it was a gift from a well-meaning friend or family member. Or, maybe itโs something you bought on a whim that you now regret.
Whatever the reason, holding onto things that we donโt need only creates clutter. And makes us feel bogged down. Getting rid of unnecessary stuff feels liberating and can help you to feel lighter and more free.
2. Decluttering Can Be Therapeutic:
Letting go of things that no longer bring you joy can be therapeutic. And help you to process any underlying emotions you may be holding onto. Especially at midlife when we are already letting go of so much of our past, in order to embrace the now.
โDecluttering can help you to become more organized and efficient in your everyday life.โ
Additionally, the act of decluttering itself can be calming and satisfying. Thereโs just something about seeing a clean, organized space that can help to set your mind at ease. Whatever the reason, decluttering can be therapeutic and can help you to feel calmer and more at peace, and when you are heading into the holiday season which can sometimes be a catalyst for family drama โ being calm and at peace is a state you want to be in!
3. It Can Save You Time And Money:
A cluttered space can make it difficult to find things when you need them, which can lead to wasted time (and frustration.) Decluttering can help you to become more organized and efficient in your everyday life.
Furthermore, getting rid of things you no longer need or use can also save you money in the long run. Knowing where everything is can prevent you from purchasing items that you already have but couldnโt locate. This is especially true in the holiday season. Stop eyeing new dรฉcor items in the shops because you have forgotten about the box of similar decorations you already own, which are buried under all of the summer camping gear in the garage. ( No judgement here โ I might have experienced this myself one year! )
4. It Can Help You to Focus On Whatโs Important:
โYouโll feel so much lighter, far more organised..โ
In our busy lives, itโs easy to get caught up in the mundane day-to-day tasks and forget about whatโs really important. Taking the time to declutter your home can change this.
Every item you touch forces you to consider the question about if it is important enough for you to keep. After all, if something isnโt bringing you joy or serving a purpose, then why are you still hanging onto it? All it is doing is taking up precious time looking after it and keeping it dust free. Decluttering can help you to focus on what matters most and let go of anything that doesnโt serve a purpose in your life.
Happy decluttering!
So there you have itโfour reasons why Autumn cleaning is good for more than just your physical home โ itโs good for your soul. Why not make a decision to get stuck into your home this year โ even if just for one weekend? Youโll feel so much lighter, far more organised and you be able to better enjoy the important things in life these holidays โ your friends and family.
