“When your home is cluttered, it can be difficult to focus on anything else.”
Still not completely convinced that clutter is negatively affecting you? Read on for my five reasons why you should declutter your home. By the end of this article, I can virtually guarantee that you’ll be wanting to start right away!
5 reasons why you should declutter your home – starting today!
#1. Your Focus Will Improve When You Declutter Your Home:
When your home is cluttered, it can be difficult to focus on anything else. I write about this in my 21 Hacks books, where I explain how your brain is constantly bombarded by the information your senses send to it. When you are surrounded by clutter, that bombardment is increased. And your focus on the task you should be doing is broken while your brain tries to process the new information.Â
By decluttering your home – the place you generally spend the most time in. You can clear your mind and improve your focus and concentration. This can help you be more productive and efficient in every way. Be that focus on your day-to-day chores, or on other things such as work. Given that so many people now work from home, the ability to focus in the home environment is more important than ever!
#2. You’ll Have More Time For Activities You Enjoy:
When your home is cluttered and disorganized, it can take a lot of time and effort to find what you need. Think about the times you’ve been running late to go somewhere special. And how you felt when it took you an extra 30 minutes, frantically trying to locate your keys, your purse, and your favorite scarf.Â
“By decluttering your home, you can reduce the amount of time spent looking for items.”
It’s frustrating – right? And when you do finally make it to the amazing event you were so looking forward to, not only are you late, but you’re flustered and grumpy which spoils your day.Â
By decluttering your home, you can reduce the amount of time spent looking for items. This allows you to spend more time on the activities that matter most to you. Whether it’s exercising, reading a book, or taking a walk outside, decluttering can help free up more time for the things that make you happy and bring you joy. If you’re looking for ways to simplify your life and make the most of your time, decluttering is definitely worth considering!
#3. You’ll Increase Your Physical Activity:
Another benefit of decluttering your home, which you might never have considered, is that it can increase your physical activity levels. When your home is cluttered and disorganized, you’re more likely to spend a lot of time sitting or standing in one area. This can lead to increased feelings of lethargy and fatigue.Â
By decluttering your home, you can reduce the amount of time spent searching for items. And instead, focus on physical activities such as cleaning or organizing. This in turn can boost your energy levels, and improve your mood. Also, it makes it easier to get active each day, using your time to enjoy the activities you really enjoy.Â
“You’ll create a calmer and more peaceful environment that promotes better sleep habits.”
#4. You’ll improve Your Sleep Quality:
Another lesser-known benefit of decluttering your home is that it can help improve your sleep quality. And I personally don’t know any midlife women who wouldn’t be excited about that! When your home is cluttered and disorganized, it can feel like there’s never enough space or quiet to get a good night’s rest. This can lead to restless nights of poor sleep. Which, in turn, leads to increased stress and fatigue throughout the day.Â
When you declutter your home – especially your bedroom, you’ll create a calmer and more peaceful environment that promotes better sleep habits. And helps you wake up feeling refreshed and energized each morning.
Decluttering May Be Just What You Need!
Your brain will be able to slow down for sleep. Rather than being distracted by piles of unfolded laundry, an overflowing washing hamper, your shoes and discarded clothing from the past three days dumped in the corner and the pile of paperwork strewn over your bedside table.Â
Having recently moved house after 13 years, there are still plenty of boxes and items to be sorted in my garage. However, my bedroom is completely clear of clutter. It was the very first room that my husband and I set up on moving day. As we both knew that we needed a space that was calming and would help us relax – even when we still had a house of boxes.Â
“When your home is cluttered, it can feel like you’re never able to get ahead or keep up with the mess.”
If you’re looking for ways to improve the quality of your sleep and wake up feeling rested and recharged each day – decluttering may be just what you need!Â
#5. A Sense Of Accomplishment And Pride:
Finally, decluttering your home can give you a sense of accomplishment and pride. When your home is cluttered, it can feel like you’re never able to get ahead or keep up with the mess. This can be incredibly frustrating and leave you feeling powerless and hopeless. And these feelings are amplified at the thought of an unexpected visitor arriving!
By decluttering your home, you’ll be able to take back control of your living space and finally start making progress. Seeing the results of your hard work will undoubtedly fill you with a sense of accomplishment and pride, helping you to feel better about yourself and your ability to achieve your goals.Â
Boost Our Self-Esteem:
It’s ironic really – we women look for ways to boost our self-esteem and outlook on life by reading books, listening to Ted talks, attending seminars, and so on. All of these methods are great, yet an easy way to boost your self-esteem without having to purchase anything at all is to simply start decluttering your home.Â
So there you have it – 5 reasons why you should declutter your home – starting today!
