I had the pleasure to meet Lakshmi when we were both accepted into the NCIDEA Labs program the Summer of 2019. We both went through an intensive four-week program designed to help entrepreneurs take their first steps towards building a successful company. Flash forward a year, and Lakshmi has made her dreams into reality. Please help me welcome our latest woman-driven brand, Srida Herbals, into the curated shopping experience at Kuel Life.
I personally use her Lavender Light Weight Moisturizing Cream and love it!
Here’s an opportunity to get to know Lakshmi and better understand what drove her to create her Srida Herbals skincare line.
KUELLIFE: What type of business of business do you own/run?
LAKSHMI: I own an organic and vegan friendly skincare line. I am also excited to introduce our organic and vegan friendly pet care products.
KUELLIFE: What prompted you or drove you to become an entrepreneur? When?
“To me, Entrepreneurship takes imagination and it is destined for people who are willing to change the world for the better.”
LAKSHMI: I have always felt that my creativity does not fit the corporate environment. It sometimes feels as though I don’t get the opportunity to let my soul truly connect with my desires to discover something beautiful. Growing up, my family taught me that life can be much broader once you ingrain one simple fact in your head, “Everything around you that you call life was pioneered by individuals that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, or you can influence it.” I would say this is where my creativity and passion for lifelong learning embarked. I always look for ways to influence and change certain values that are presented to me. Even from a young age. To me, entrepreneurship takes imagination and it is destined for people who are willing to change the world for the better.
I aspire to create products to serve those around me and help them feel confident in their own skin. To start doing this, I had to travel back to my roots, India, the homeland of ayurvedic skincare. This is the holy grail of vegan and organic skincare routine that both my mother and my grandmother swore by. I wanted to pass on these valuable lessons to both my daughters, but unfortunately the products that were available on the market today are bombarded with various inorganic ingredients that do more harm than good!
I found myself on a quest to keep my traditions alive, but still wanting to satisfy my daughters’ desires to use modern skincare products. Luckily for me, I have my 20+ years of pharmaceutical skills; along with the knowledge I gained growing, up to formulate products that I feel comfortable with my daughters using. I use toxin-free, organic, and vegan ingredients to its righteous quantity to maximize the effects of the products. By founding Srida Herbals, I want to influence the skincare world around me. I want others to understand that skincare is a holistic ritual and it’s not just the active process of using products. Srida Herbal’s soul desire is to educate people on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle combined with using organic products that can have a positive impact in their life.
KUELLIFE: What’s your biggest struggle?
LAKSHMI: I would say my biggest struggle is marketing and social media marketing. I’m currently learning how to become more tech savvy and taking product photos to feature more of my products on sites like Instagram.
KUELLIFE: What is your biggest fear as an entrepreneur? How do you work through it?
LAKSHMI: My biggest fear as an entrepreneur is to fail to reach the right clients. Failure often seems like the worst of all possibilities, but when I do have these thoughts, I often meditate to clear my head of any negativity. Then, I begin to reframe the possibility of failure as the opportunity to try something new. If the products did not work for a certain individual, I try my best to understand the reason why and use it as a chance to refine that formulation to make it more preferable for people with that skin type.
KUELLIFE: How do you measure your success?
LAKSHMI: I learned from a young age that success is both intrapersonal and interpersonal. It has been clear to me that any measure of success cannot exist in one dimension. I feel the most successful when I’m content with the amount of ‘me-time’ I’m allocating for myself to successfully help those around me to achieve their goals and mine. So, success to me is measured by whether or not I am achieving the goals I set for myself every week.
“Failure is an inevitable part of success, which we learn from.”
KUELLIFE: Finally, what advice would you give other women about taking an entrepreneurial path?
LAKSHMI: I hesitated when starting Srida Herbals. As I reflect back on that day when I finally made the jump for it, I wish I had another woman, who owned a small business, tell me that this will be the best decision I would ever make. Also, for those women who want to embark on this magical and gratifying path, I want to let them in on a little secret. Failure is an inevitable part of success, which we learn from. The key to growth and success is the dedication to keep striving. Make sure to enjoy the process along the way. Make time for ourselves and our loved ones.
