Why do you show up? Why do you dress, exercise, eat, and live the way you do?
Showing up, making the effort, and putting yourself out there is half the battle, sure. But do you know what your “why” is, or your motivation behind your actions? Your “why” is more important than you might think, because your “why” is what will push you forward through any kind adversity.
I choose to show up for myself. No one else. That’s my “why,” and that’s what keeps me moving forward, always progressing. I believe all women can benefit from this kind of mentality.
Breaking the Mold:
Showing up for yourself is important no matter if you are a man or a woman. However, I believe it is especially important for women, as society tends to tell us to live or act a certain way. The world pushes us towards specific molds based on misguided traditions. Well, I call that B.S.
A woman of any age should dress the way she wants to dress. A woman of any age should work out the way she wants to work out. And, a woman of any age should act the way she wants to act. Seems like a pretty liberating and easy way to live, doesn’t it? Well, it is only possible if you show up for you, and you alone. If you let society determine your “why,” then you will always be at the mercy of stereotypes decided on by other people. Showing up for yourself eliminates that constant burden.
We Only Have One Shot:
Life is far too short to be worried about what people think. We only have one life to live after all! The key is to be authentic; be who you really are. That is the core of showing up for yourself, for any person that truly walks, talks, and lives the way they are most comfortable with has a firm grasp on their “why.” The “why” should be you!
Enjoy Being Atypical:
A 59-year-old woman like me does not typically dress, work out, or live like I do. But guess what? This is the only way I know how to live, and, most importantly, it is the only way I want to live. Everyone has their preferences; I’m certainly not saying you should do exactly what I do in the gym, at work, when I travel, etc. What I am saying is that you should do exactly what makes you happiest, no matter how old or young you are, and one of the best ways to do that is to show up for yourself!
Showing up for yourself is something I try to instill in my clients. It doesn’t always come naturally to people for one reason or another, but if you’d like some advice or inspiration, feel free to reach out via Instagram @gailgensler or email me at

In the end, you are the best person to show up for!
