Food For Your Soul: Dawn McGee
We’ve all been there: You start off strong, implementing new habits into your daily routine, and everything feels exciting and invigorating.
But over time, that initial spark can fade, and what was once exhilarating starts to feel mundane. So, how do you keep things fresh and exciting in your healthy lifestyle? How do you keep your health on track when your mindset falters? Let’s talk about it!
5 Tips To Help You Change Your Mindset:
Sometimes to change your physical health, you must first change your mindset. You’ve probably heard the term ‘pivoting’ before – it’s everywhere these days! It’s all about shifting gears and changing direction. You probably hear the term most often in business and career development. But you can also make pivots in your personal life!. Here are some tips to help you change your mindset so that you can change your health.
“These small shifts can reignite your energy and enthusiasm for life.”
1. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone:
When you’re feeling ‘stuck’ in your mindset, it’s time to change your routine! Get back in the groove by stepping out of your comfort zone. Your personal comfort zone could be the physical space you occupy, your ten-step morning routine, or any of the other things in your daily life that are just a ‘given.’ Whatever it is, it’s time to break free of your comfort zone!
Whether you’re feeling stuck in your nutrition, exercise routine, or self-care practices, a change of scenery can work wonders. Consider this: when you break away from your usual surroundings, you gain a fresh perspective. Try exploring new cuisines, visiting different fitness facilities, or simply taking a walk in an unfamiliar neighborhood. These small shifts can reignite your energy and enthusiasm for life and change your health.
If you’re feeling stuck or uninspired, don’t be afraid to shake things up. Embrace change, seek out new experiences, and watch as your perspective—and your life—transforms before your eyes.
2. Talk It Out:
There’s no better way to change your mindset than to talk to other people. Sometimes, you may not be able to identify where in your mindset you are ‘stuck,’ but an open conversation with a friend could be the key to figuring it out.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending a live intensive workshop with my mastermind group. During those two days of intensive brainstorming and planning, I found clarity in my business direction. Having conversations with like-minded people helped me to step into a new mindset. And it can help you, too!
3. Get Creative in the Kitchen:
It is so easy to get stuck in a routine of making the same meals every week. After all, you’re already comfortable making them. You know exactly which ingredients you’ll need, and how much time it will take to prepare them. But trying something new in the kitchen can help you change your mindset!
Try a new recipe. My friend Debbie Brosnan of The Effortless Kitchen has virtual cooking classes on Saturdays, and that’s a perfect way to try a new recipe, have fun, and stay in the comfort of your own kitchen. You can also pick up a vegetable you’ve never used before or find a fun new combination of seasonings. Just get creative. And have fun with it! This can also help change your health.
“The key is to keep doing intentional movement and keep things fun!”
4. Mix Up Your Movement Routine:
Who says workouts have to be boring? Not me! With warmer weather on the horizon, it’s the ideal time to explore new outdoor activities or spice up your indoor workout routine. A new workout will help you to reset your mindset about exercise. And we all know that sometimes, it’s hard to convince ourselves to follow through on our workouts!
Whether it’s trying a new fitness class, rediscovering your love for pilates (like I just did!), or simply taking a stroll in a new neighborhood, find activities that make you feel alive and energized. The key is to keep doing intentional movement and keep things fun – this is key to changing your health.
5. Recharge and Refresh:
When you’re burnt out, it’s impossible to change your mindset. You’re bound to feel negative, and you won’t want to make positive changes in your lifestyle. That’s perfectly normal!
So before you try to change your mindset, give yourself a chance to recharge and refresh. Take the time to rest. Take time for self-care.
Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and face masks (although those are great too!). It’s about finding activities that nourish your soul and bring you joy. Whether you’re a bookworm, a meditation guru, or a hobby enthusiast, make time for activities that feed your spirit. And hey, why not shake things up a bit? Join a book club, explore a new hobby, or dive into a workshop that sparks your curiosity. Life is too short for dull routines! Time spent resting and recharging will transform your mindset and change your health.
