Food For Your Soul: Dawn McGee
We all need those simple well-being tips to keep us on our health journey.
How is your 2025 going? Are you meeting your goals? Do you feel like you’re setting yourself up for success I’ve been helping my clients create healthy, happy lifestyles for a long time now. What I’ve learned is that simplicity and sustainability are fundamental to a healthy life. So here are some
6 Well-being Tips To Help You Build Your Healthy Lifestyle:
1. Create Specific Goals:
It’s time to let go of the cycle of making, abandoning, or rethinking your resolutions as the year goes on. This year, let’s shift our focus from vague resolutions to something more practical and sustainable: a simple routine. Get specific about what you want to achieve. Make sure your goals are actionable. And write your goals down!
2. Start Small:
Don’t try to make big changes all at once. That’s a recipe for giving up! If you’re not already working out regularly, suddenly deciding to exercise five days a week might seem like a great idea—until it becomes too much to handle.
“Don’t try to make big changes all at once. That’s a recipe for giving up!”
Instead of diving into an intense, overwhelming workout routine, start with small, achievable steps that will help you build consistency and long-term success. Add 10 minutes of stretching to your morning routine. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier each night. Cook dinner at home one extra night each week. These little things add up!
3. Try Habit Stacking:
You lead a busy life. That means it might be hard to find extra time to invest in new habits. One of my favorite ways to make the most of the time available is habit stacking. Here’s how it works
If you brush your teeth every morning (and I hope you do!), you can take that existing habit and stack something else on top of it. Try doing heel raises and squats while brushing your teeth. No extra time or equipment needed—just a small change to enhance your current routine. It’s an easy way to add healthy habits without disrupting your day-to-day or running out of time.
4. Get Outside Every Day:
Especially during the darker months, like winter in New England, getting outside for even a few minutes each day can have incredible health benefits. Exposure to sunlight supports your vitamin D levels, boosts your mood, and helps regulate your circadian rhythm. Fresh air and movement also reduce stress and increase energy. So if you’re focusing on simple, sustainable habits, this is a great place to start!
Forget the pressure of hitting 10,000 steps if that feels out of reach. Start where you are and build from there. Maybe it’s a 10-minute walk during your lunch break or a few deep breaths of fresh air on your porch. But if walking isn’t an option, simply spend a moment outside with a cup of tea, stretch on your balcony, or open a window and let the fresh air in. The key here is consistency, not perfection. A daily dose of fresh air, no matter how small, can do wonders for your well-being.

5. Prioritize Hydration:
Hydration is one of the simplest yet most overlooked aspects of health. It impacts everything from your energy levels to your digestion and even your skin. Staying hydrated helps your body function optimally. It improves focus, supports joint health, and can even boost your digestion. If you’re not paying attention to your hydration levels, you won’t be able to feel your best!
As always, keep it simple. Carry a water bottle with you at all times. This simple habit eliminates the need for timers or reminders (but if you need timers when you start out, definitely use them – tools are good!). Just sip throughout the day. If plain water isn’t your thing, experiment until you find what works for you. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime for flavor. Infuse your water with fresh fruit like berries or cucumber. Use essential oils safe for ingestion (like food-grade peppermint or orange) to add variety. Hydration can be an enjoyable part of your lifestyle!
6. Declutter:
The holiday season often leaves us feeling overstimulated and overwhelmed, with a mental and physical “clutter” that can weigh us down. A cluttered space can contribute to stress and anxiety, while a more organized environment promotes calm and focus. Taking time to declutter—both literally and emotionally—can help you reset for the year ahead. Remember: your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
Decluttering doesn’t mean stripping your life down to the bare minimum. It’s about removing what isn’t serving you and making space for what truly brings you joy and peace. Here are some tips to help you declutter:
- Begin small. Tidy up one drawer, one shelf, or one corner of a room.
- Donate or recycle items that no longer serve you.
- Clear your schedule of commitments that drain your energy or bring unnecessary stress.
Have Fun!
I believe that a healthy lifestyle can be full of joy. That’s why I’m so passionate about what I do! I hope you find more joy in 2025 as you create your healthful life.
