If you’re trying to figure out how to save money on clothes while your menopausal body is changing, these tips will help you stay stylish without overspending.
It’s a challenge so many of us face—you wake up one day and realize the clothes you used to love no longer flatter or fit. Add in rising prices from new tariffs, and suddenly refreshing your wardrobe feels overwhelming. So what now?
How To Save Money On Clothes And Still Feel Great In What You Wear:
I’m going to help you create a wardrobe that flatters the body you have today and doesn’t break the bank. But be warned…. these tips are going to require a mindset shift around how and why you buy clothes.
Ready?
1. What Flatters Your Body Shape Now!
When you go through a big body change, it’s time to determine what is going to flatter the body you have today. I know! This is really hard because it means letting go of the clothes you loved but don’t fit anymore. The trick to this emotional hurdle is to embrace the new. To get excited about re-discovering and re-creating a style that does work for the woman you are today.
And it’s worth it. Because once you discover what does work for you, it comes with a sense of confidence, even if you are having a bloated day.
I’ll give you an example. I have these black leather pants I bought in Italy years ago. They have been my firm favorite. Since my perimenopausal body changes, they do not zip up! Not even close! I can either continue to focus on what doesn’t work for me or….. I can get excited about the styles I can wear that now work for me. Like…. wide leg pants.
I have always loved wide leg pants. I’ve styled women in them, I’ve designed them and I love them because they are so flattering on women who have curves. I have never really had curves. I’ve always been very straight up and down, but now…. my body has become a little more curvy. I went up a cup size, my hips are a little wider. The weight training I’ve been doing is giving me a waist that is more defined. Yay! So now, my new curves mean I rock wide leg pants!
The choice is mine. I can focus on what doesn’t work for me now or… I can get excited about what does!
2. Shop Your Own Closet First!
Once you get a clearer idea of what does work for you now, it’s time to get into the weeds of your closet. Yes! Get in there. You probably have things in there that you have forgotten about or didn’t really work for the shape you used to have, but will work for the shape you have now. Go through your entire closet, separate the items that no longer fit and flatter, but look for some that do.
3. Make A Shopping List:
Now that you know what you have, what do you need to create the look that represents who you are now? This is so important because it’s easy to buy whatever is on sale, cheap or catches your eye. This will waste money fast! And you won’t get a wardrobe you love. When you get intentional and focused on what you need, you are more likely to find it. It actually trains the brain to notice the items you are looking for instead of all the others things you don’t need.
4. Build A Versatile Wardrobe:
Instead of having a wardrobe full of stuff, carefully curate a wardrobe that really works for you and is super versatile. This can make you excited to get dressed in the morning. A few items that mix and match, dress up and dress down will ensure you always have something fabulous to wear.
For example a fun skirt that you can mix and match with various tops will make so many different outfits. A dress that you can dress up and dress down for various occasions will mean you don’t have to have so many dresses to always have something to wear.
5. Buy Less, But Still Have Plenty To Wear:
We often think we have to sacrifice quantity for quality, but I’ve found that investing in a versatile wardrobe of a few carefully curated pieces actually makes it feel like you have more to wear.
It’s not to say that every item you buy has to have a high price tag. But being conscious of what you have, what you need and what you love to wear will truly save you time, money and get you excited to get dressed.
And that girlfriend… is priceless.
