Welcome Diane Amelia Read:
KUELLIFE: What type of business do you own/run?
Diane: I’m a Mind & Body Alchemist for women over 50, with a toolbox full of diverse approaches to wellbeing. Women who partner with me want to take steps toward feeling full of vitality now and forever, and they typically have a lot of plates spinning, so their lives aren’t set up for big, dramatic changes.
Together we make small, sustainable adjustments to their habits of movement, eating, thought, self-talk, gut health, forgiveness, sleep, risk-taking, and beyond in order to create self-honoring habits that become a natural lifestyle.
” I created an online health & wellness community for women to keep me accountable, in shape..”
KUELLIFE: What prompted you or drove you to become an entrepreneur? When?
Diane: The year I turned 60, my body was changing, my bank account was “meh,” and I felt like I was slipping away from my dream of spending my third act on a surfboard in warm waters around the globe. In self defense, I created an online health & wellness community for women to keep me accountable, in shape, and earning from a business I could do anywhere with wifi.
In the course of teaching growth mindset to adults preparing for their high school equivalency exams, disengaging from my own 16-year wrestling match with bulimia, learning to work with energy while becoming a Reiki Master and Aromatherapist, leading personal and professional development courses, and getting my own ass whipped into shape by seasoned life coaches, I gathered a goldmine of tips, tricks, and strategies for living in a state of wellbeing. It felt downright unethical to keep it all to myself!
Thrive Organically: Building Meaningful Relationships
KUELLIFE: What’s your biggest struggle?
Diane: My biggest struggle is unlearning the marketing approach I’ve been taught over the years that relies on a huge volume of contacts … basically hearing “no thanks” ninety-nine times for the one “yes” I might get. It felt exhausting, dispiriting, and occasionally creepy, but old whispers still sometimes say, “Well, it works for other people. What makes you so different?” That thinking leads me back to the “grind” mentality which just isn’t me. Now, I prefer to cultivate a smaller number of well-chosen relationships and trust that my business will thrive organically from there.
KUELLIFE: What is your biggest fear as an entrepreneur? How do you work through it?
Diane: My overarching mission is to make the world a more loving and interconnected place by helping women love themselves first so they can do all the things they do without depleting themselves (and model for others how a woman cares for herself.) My biggest fear is falling short of that mission.
“For me, success is measured each day in how well I used joy as my guide and barometer.”
Recognizing that there are several billion women on Earth, I navigate those moments when I feel like I’m not doing enough by meditating on connecting with exactly the women I’m meant to work with, and believing others can find a different path to the same message.
KUELLIFE: How do you measure your success?
Diane: For me, success is measured each day in how well I used joy as my guide and barometer. When I do, everything … personal and professional … seems to fall into place.
Believe In Your Vision:
KUELLIFE: Finally, what advice would you give other women about taking an entrepreneurial path?
Diane: Do it. Believe in your vision with unwavering dedication. Select three to five folk who will support your ultimate vision and can serve as your “Board of Advisors.” As you’re finding your way, prepare to fail and embrace the experience without judgment because so much important learning happens that way.
When it all gets to be too much, take a nap (even five minutes,) get counsel from your Advisors, put on your playlist of power tunes, remember why you started, invite your body to viscerally feel the excitement of your inevitable success, and celebrate every tiny win along the way.
