Parent Coach for Moms of Teens: Fern Weis
Infinite Game Parenting–let’s define it and talk about it.
Short-term wins vs long-term success. Achievement vs character. Raising teenagers isn’t just about getting good grades or building an impressive college resume—it’s about preparing them for life, with its inevitable ups and downs. Where the rubber meets the road. This is where the concept of the infinite game comes in.
The infinite game is about the bigger picture—the traits and skills that will carry your teen through life’s challenges, long after school and sports are over. Research suggests that 80% of success in life comes from character and interpersonal skills—not just talent or academic achievement.
“A perfect GPA won’t teach your teen how to bounce back from failure or navigate a difficult relationship.”
Building Character And Self-Esteem:
If that’s true (and it likely is), then it’s time we shift our attention to building character and self-esteem —the foundations of the infinite game.
Too often, we focus on the measurable: grades, awards, and achievements. But those things don’t guarantee future success. A perfect GPA won’t teach your teen how to bounce back from failure or navigate a difficult relationship.
What happens when they fail a test or get rejected from a job? How well do they handle setbacks, ask for help, and find solutions?
Grades and qualifications might open doors, but qualities such as determination, resilience, and emotional intelligence will keep them open. Employers don’t just hire for skills—they look for adaptability, teamwork, and leadership.
Infinite Game Parenting Helps Your Teen Thrive:
Qualities like humility, compassion, and problem-solving will help your teen thrive when life throws curveballs—because it will. The unpredictable is a constant in our lives.
“The unpredictable is a constant in our lives.”
It’s never too late to help your teen develop these skills. The impact will last a lifetime. The best time to start is today.
