Just a few good pieces can maximize your wardrobe. They give you tons of mix & match, dress up & dress down options, ensuring you always have something fabulous to wear.
Why You Don’t Need A Lot Of Clothing To Maximize Your Wardrobe:
But what are your perfect pieces? I’m not going to tell you that every woman must have a little black dress, a white button down and a classic blazer. I don’t have any of those things in my closet and believe me, I have plenty to wear.
Your perfect pieces are going to be as unique as your personal style and body shape. However, there are some principles that I can share that will help you discover what your perfect pieces are.
Pieces That Suit The Body Shape You Have NOW:
This is so important because looking fabulous is always about dressing for your body shape. I’m not talking about the body shape you used to have, wished you had or are even working toward achieving. I’m talking about the body you have TODAY!Â
“This is so important because looking fabulous is always about dressing for your body shape”
When it comes to shopping for your perfect pieces, luckily these days there are more cuts and styles to choose from. Remember when the skinny jean was in and that’s all that you could find in stores? That isn’t the case anymore.Â
Create A Color Palette:
And everything doesn’t have to be black! Remember that colors that suit your complexion can take years off your look.Â
Decide on a good neutral color (black, brown, navy, grey, ivory etc) then bring some color, print and texture into your look. When selecting your colors and prints, ensure that they all work with the neutral you have chosen.Â
Easy Mix & Match:
Make sure that every item you bring into your closet has at least 3 other items you can pair it with. For example: avoid buying a skirt you love only to find you have no tops to wear with the skirt.
If you buy a dress, make sure you can wear it various ways by dressing it up and dressing it down to get maximum versatility.
“If you wear volume on the bottom then go more fitted on the top and vice versa.”
Styles That Balance Your Proportions:
When creating your perfect mix and match closet, pay attention to your proportions for a slimming look. If you wear volume on the bottom then go more fitted on the top and vice versa. For example: If wide leg pants suit you, make sure you have fitted tops to wear with them to balance the volume of the pants. If you love longer flowing tops and dusters, ensure you have fitted slim leg pants to balance the look. This will ensure that all your pieces will work perfectly together.
Consider Your Lifestyle:
The styles you choose for your perfect mix and match closet will depend on your lifestyle. If you work from home and occasionally go out in the evening, your perfect styles may look different to that of a woman who works in an office and often travels for work. In order to get maximum versatility, ensure that the styles you choose suit your lifestyle. Remember that your wardrobe needs to support you and not you try to fit into it.
