Summer MakeUp, Fashion, And A Great Read To Boot!

Elise Marquam Jahns July 2022

Beauty Thought Leader: Elise Marquam-Jahns

I’m going to be using makeup products today to create a fun, soft summer look.

And when I’ve completed my summer makeup, I’ll add in some fashion to go with the look as well as a fun summer read.

Summer Eyeshadow Palette:

The star of this show is going to be a perfect summer eyeshadow palette from Bh Cosmetics called “Summer in St. Tropez.” If this palette doesn’t scream “summer,” I don’t know what does!

“Thorough blending will soften the look dramatically to create a wonderful summer vibe.”

You’ll see in the video that I’ve filled in my eyebrows. I also applied my eye primer, so I’ll start off with the eyeshadow. The colors I’ll be using will coordinate nicely with the summer top I’ll be changing into later.

I’ll combine a beige and light apricot color in the crease of my eyes, adding a touch of deep blue to the outer corner of the lids. And, I’ll apply just a light touch of deep violet to the center of the crease. Thorough blending will soften the look dramatically to create a wonderful summer vibe.

Brightening The Skin Makeup:

My favorite summer foundation is Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin Foundation which does a wonderful job of brightening the skin. I’ll do some under-eye correcting with Elf’s Hydrating Camo Concealer in Light Peach. And add just a touch of Fair Beige on top of the peach to brighten the area under the eyes. To cover the darker age spots, I won’t be without my Clinique Even Better Concealer which provides really top-notch coverage.

The creamier the cream contour, the easier it is to apply and blend in for a natural look. This provides some soft definition for the face. My “go-to” contour is Huda Beauty’s Tantour. Using a good brush makes contour application flawless. The Huda Beauty Tantour Brush, which is double-ended, makes contour application and blending almost effortless.

My Favorite Blush And Highlighter Combo:

They are two products from UK makeup artist Daniel Sandler. His Watercolour Liquid blushes create a lovely soft, natural flush. And his Liquid Watercolour highlighter called “Icing”, provides the perfect soft summer glow and blends in seamlessly with the blush.

“It’s pricey, but the products in this palette last for a very long time.”

Finishing A Makeup Look:

I’ve chosen to soften my lipstick color just a bit. And complete the lip look with a light gloss that adds additional glow to this summer look.

No matter what time of year it is, finishing a makeup look with a soft focus, setting powder melds the whole look together. It also adds some additional soft glow. And the absolute stand-out product in this field is Hourglass’ Ambient light powder which comes in a variety of gorgeous shades.

A wonderful option is the full Hourglass palette which combines two of the setting powders. It comes with a highlighter, two blushes and a bronzer. It’s pricey, but the products in this palette last for a very long time.

Easy, Breezy Summer Look:

My fashion choice is a favorite summer top from Belle by Kim Gravel which just makes me smile when I see the colors. Although I’m usually drawn to more subtle prints, I frankly just loved the colors in this top as well as the style.

Since my upper arms and short sleeves don’t do well together, I love the three-quarter length sleeves and the split V-neck top. I think this is a flattering neckline for many of us. And I always love a good tunic length with side slits. To me, it’s just an easy/breezy summer look!

Now that we have the makeup and fashion look in place, let’s focus on a  fun summer read. Rarely do I find myself jotting down dialogue quotes from a character in a novel, but several “Poppyisms” now grace one of my notebooks.

It’s one of those books that you can’t wait to pick up again..”

Tuscan Fields:

This book—titled The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany  – by Lori Nelson Spielman—is set against the backdrop of a New York deli, Venetian canals, rolling Tuscan fields, and an Amalfi Coast village. It’s one of those books that you can’t wait to pick up again and are filled with regret when you reach the last paragraph. I was enthralled with three unique characters whose stories and family members allow Spielman to dive deep into the human psyche.

An Interesting Plot:

There’s some manipulation, jealousy, heartbreak, and profound love as these characters deal with family secrets. And, how often do we see a main character in a book who is older? So it’s wonderful to meet and love one of the main characters–Poppy–who’s 85 years old.

At one point in the novel she beautifully says: “Love, in any of its forms, takes the world from a bleak pencil sketch to a magnificent oil painting.” I think you’ll find The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany to be a really interesting and fun summer read!

Hope this fun combination of summer makeup, fashion, and a great summer read hits the spot!
