Business Starter Thought Leader: Monica Allen
When you have that business idea and you decide to take it on, the next thought should be around marketing.
How will you market your business?Â
You see marketing your business is essential to its success. Without marketing, no one will know about your business or what you have to offer. There are many different ways to market your company and the best approach will vary depending on your industry, target audience, and budget. There is no one solution to get your business name out into the world. It is truly a combination of the tips below that will help propel your business forward.Â
“It can be simple, but it should provide information about your product and/or service.”
12 Tips For Marketing Your Business:
Here are 12 tips for marketing your business:
1. Create a strong online presence
In today’s world, it’s essential to have a strong online presence. This means having a well-designed website that is easy to navigate and provides valuable information about your business. You will have some people tell you that you don’t need a website anymore, but I disagree. To look legit and like you take your business seriously, a website is vital.
It can be simple, but it should provide information about your product and/or service. It should provide a method for potential customers to sign up to learn more or get your newsletter or ongoing promotions. In addition, if you sell a product, it should of course allow them to easily add the item or items to cart and checkout. Amazon has done this best with their one-click to purchase.
2. Develop a strong brand identity
Your brand identity is what sets you apart from the competition. It includes your logo, colors, fonts, and overall style. Make sure your brand identity is consistent across all of your marketing materials. Your brand identity is also your culture.
How do you answer the phone or answer emails? How do you make your customers feel? In our brick & mortar location, we like to view each customer as a friend. We aim to get to know them as a person, not just as a transaction. This all plays a part in your brand identity and the feeling your brand evokes. Apple is a company that has built a brand identity and culture around simplicity…from a simple logo, to simple packaging, to simple and easy-to-use products.
3. Create high-quality content
Content is king when it comes to marketing. You need to create high-quality content that will engage your target audience and keep them coming back for more. This could include blog posts, articles, videos, infographics, and more. Most of our content is photos of products we have completed in the past. It shows potential clients our capabilities and helps them feel more comfortable working with us.
“Social media is a perfect way to connect with potential customers and promote your business.”
Educate Your Potential Customer:
4. Promote your business through social media
Social media is a perfect way to connect with potential customers and promote your business. Make sure you are active on the social media platforms that your target audience uses and post interesting and engaging content. This could be quality photos of your product, behind-the-scenes of your team and office or customer testimonials. You can also use social media to educate your potential customers on the quality of your product or your service offerings.
5. Use email marketing
Email marketing is a way to stay in touch with your customers and promote your business. Make sure you have a list of email addresses for your target audience and send them regular emails with news, updates, and special offers. Offering a discount when someone hits your website is a great way to grow your email list. You can also offer an ebook or some other freebie to get your ideal client on your email list.
6. Attend industry events
Consider attending industry events to network with potential customers and partners. This will help you stay up-to-date with new trends in your industry and connect. A fantastic way to connect is to get a Linq or Dot business card so all of your information is in one place. New people you connect with can easily scan your QR code to access all of your contact information, and you can do the same with them.
Great Way To Reach A Large Audience:
7. Run paid advertising campaigns
Paid advertising can be a great way to reach a large audience quickly. You can run ads on social media, search engines, and other websites. If there is a newsletter or podcast that aligns with your audience, these ads can sometimes be very affordable to get your business name out there.
“Offering discounts and promotions is a great way to attract new customers.”
8. Offer discounts and promotions
Everyone loves a good deal. Offering discounts and promotions is a great tip for marketing your business. It is a way to attract new customers and encourage existing customers to buy more. For new customers who may not know about your business, it allows them into your world to see what a great product or service you offer for a reduced price initially. Do be cautious with discounts and promotions though, you don’t want to send them out so often that your customers are always simply waiting for the next discount. This devalues your product or service.
9. Get involved in your community
Getting involved in your community is a great way to build relationships with potential customers and partners. It’s a way to give back to the community. We have sponsored 5Ks, and we support a nearby school so our business’ logo appears on a banner for all the parents to see during carpool. Our logo also appears in the school newsletter. Getting involved with your local community is a wonderful way to get behind causes that mean a lot to you.
A Positive Marketing Your Business Experience:
10. Ask for referrals
When your customers have had a wonderful experience with you, don’t be afraid to ask them for a referral. Who else do they know that could benefit from your product or service? You can even offer them a discount if they refer someone to your business. We offer our customers as well as the person being referred a discount with our company when they make a purchase.
11. Word of mouth
As stated above, this is one of the best ways to market your business. People will listen to someone they trust. In addition, Google or Amazon reviews are a form of word of mouth. Even though we may not personally know the reviewers, we often will take time to read reviews before making a purchase. Be sure to ask the clients who had a positive experience with you, to leave you a review. Positive reviews can result in more business.
“Many times a great testimonial can come out of this feedback survey.”
Marketing Tips For Your Business:
12. Track your results
It’s important to track your results so you can see what’s working and what’s not. This will help you adjust your marketing strategy as needed. We often ask customers who come in our store, how did they hear about us. We want to know if we were referred by a friend or if they checked us out on Google. And we also ask customers to complete a feedback survey after they receive their product from us. Many times a great testimonial can come out of this feedback survey.Â
All of this information goes a long way in determining what marketing strategies are working or not working.Â
Marketing your business can be a lot of work, but it’s essential to its success. The goal is really for everyone to know what you do…what your business offers. By following these tips, you can create a marketing strategy that will help you reach your target audience and achieve your business goals.
