3 Ways To Cope With Our Pandemic Emotions

3 Ways To Cope With Our Pandemic Emotions

paid guest

The pandemic has been hard on a lot of people, both physically and mentally.

Shefali Luthra reports that 51% of all adults in America say their mental health has deteriorated over the course of the pandemic. It was also found that women were more prone to suffer from the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Out of all the people who participated in the survey, 57% of women claimed their mental health was affected. Which is a greater number compared to the 44% of men who reported the same thing.

With the rise in mental health problems, it is important to be able to find ways to cope with the overwhelming emotions you have been feeling throughout the pandemic. Debra Johnstone writes about how some circumstances are just out of our control. But how we react to them definitely is. Being conscious when times get tough can make it easier to pull through to the other side. And here are some ways to help you cope:

“It is also known to help your body produce endorphins, a hormone that is known to induce a state of relaxation.”

1. Exercise:

Aside from the physical benefits exercise can provide, it has been proven that physical activity is also good for mental wellbeing. According to Harvard Health, exercise is known to reduce stress hormones. Which can help with easing anxiety. It is also known to help your body produce endorphins, a hormone that is known to induce a state of relaxation.

Doing some cardio like running or biking can help regulate the hormones in your body, lowering your stress and anxiety levels. It can be done first thing in the morning. To improve your disposition throughout the day, Or it can be done at the end of a long and stressful day when you want to relax and de-stress. Exercise can be a good outlet for those suffering from anxiety to be able to cope with their emotions.

2. Seek Professional Help:

If you are feeling overwhelmed with your emotions, the best thing you can do is seek professional help. This can mean anything from talking to a counselor or a psychiatrist or going on a teletherapy session. Health website SymptomFind, provides its readers with guides to improve their wellbeing. And it mentions that people who suffer from anxiety disorders can get overwhelmed and emotional quite easily. So they need to be able to find professional support.

The website also mentions how seeking help from a professional can assist individuals in understanding what they are feeling and how to process the feelings. These professionals can also help manage your symptoms with either grounding exercises or medication. So, if you are looking for a way to slowly but surely overcome your anxieties. Seeking professional help can give you some guidance towards a better mental state.

“It can also help reduce stress and anxiety by allowing you to relax and remove yourself from your fast-paced life.”

3. Meditate:

The pandemic can have major mental health implications. With so many things to worry about, it is no wonder that more people are stressed and anxious. People forget to take a moment to themselves to just breathe. Meditation can help you re-center yourself and gives you the opportunity to focus on regulating your emotions.

Writer Erin Heger recommends meditating as it has many positive benefits on your mental health. It can promote self-awareness and mindfulness by allowing you to reflect on yourself. It can also help reduce stress and anxiety by allowing you to relax. And remove yourself from your fast-paced life. Lastly, it can help you become a better person overall by allowing you to study yourself and what aspects of your life you can improve through introspection.

It is so important to look after your mental health now more than ever. There are many ways you can help yourself, but the first step is to acknowledge that something may be bothering you. No matter how small or big your anxieties may be, these methods can help you overcome them and help your mental wellbeing in the long run.
