Midlife Reinvention Thought Leader: Yvonne Marchese
Do you find yourself living in the middle of a never-ending sameness?
Have you set up your days so there’s a reliable routine you can count on? I think we do this as we get older because it’s efficient. It helps us get things done and there’s a comfort that comes from knowing what to expect everyday.
“Just because we’re getting older doesn’t mean we are fully cooked.”
But there’s also a price to be paid for that comfort. You might feel like you’re stuck in a rut. You want to spice things up or you know you need to make some essential changes, but your routine keeps you tied to the way you’ve always done things. That routine is a collection of habits and our habits define us.
When we do this we are unintentionally limiting our growth potential. When was the last time you really challenged yourself? Just because we’re getting older doesn’t mean we are fully cooked. What if we abandon the idea of the midlife crisis and rename it a midlife awakening? We are here to learn and grow and that doesn’t stop just because we’re older. It could be that all you need is a change in your daily perspective – a way to change up your everyday routine.
My “Vacation Eyes”:
Many parts of your routine are probably serving you well, but if you feel like “something’s off” or simply feeling bored, you might want to take a look at shaking things up a bit. I have a little trick I like to use when I feel the need to shake up my perspective. I put on my “vacation eyes” when going through my daily routine. A few years ago I took it on as a daily challenge and I’m just now realizing that it may have laid the ground for my midlife reinvention.
