Fashion Fridays, Kuel Life Thought Leader: Tracy Gold
You are getting ready for your big meeting or event and grab your favorite outfit that always makes you feel fabulous…only to find it doesn’t look so fabulous or worse… doesn’t even fit!
Lets be honest, midlife does a humdinger on our bodies, even when we are making healthy lifestyle choices.
Another Bloated Day:
I have experienced this for months now as I’ve entered perimenopause. I am a guest host on QVC and have to go on set with six cameras angled in all different directions. Yikes! I have to wear solid color clothing (no prints) and it can’t be baggy since baggy can really make things look worse on camera.
I’d decide which outfit is a perfect fit for the product I’m presenting and then…. I’d have yet another bloated day and end up feeling less confident than I want to feel going onto national television.
4 Ways To Dress When You Are Having A Bloated Day:
This is when I decided to put my designer and styling skills to work. To create designs that will work with my changing body, allowing me to throw something on with confidence, knowing that it will fit and look fab, bloated or not.
“I have experienced this for months now as I’ve entered perimenopause.”
In the process, these are the things I’ve learned:
1. Prints Truly Are A Girls Best Friend!
I know, you have probably thought the opposite, right? Well, let me assure you that prints disguise a multitude of things that solid colors just don’t. You do however need to wear more shapely styles for prints to work their magic. Shapely doesn’t mean tight, it just means that you aren’t wearing a sack.
2. When You Wear Solid Colors, Choose Your Fabrics And Styles Carefully:
I love medium weight stretch cotton fabrics as they are breathable, still drape nicely and don’t cling in all the wrong places. When it comes to styles, dresses that skim the waist and flare at the hem are fabulous! They balance our curves and still give us a little extra around the tummy if it’s well cut.
3. Choose Cuts That Allow You To Style Them In Different Ways:
Depending on what your body is doing on any given day. Dresses that you can belt or not, pants that have stretch so you don’t have to worry whether they will zip up and avoid the styles that you tell yourself you will fit into ‘when you lose weight’.Â
“Dresses that you can belt or not, pants that have stretch so you don’t have to worry..“
4. Re-Asses Your Underwear:
If you haven’t been measured for a bra for a while, it may be time. Or you may have had bras for so long that they have stretched out. The right undies can go a long way to giving you smoother look and if you wear solid colors a lot, seamless panties are the best!
