Beauty Thought Leader: Elise Marquam-Jahns
This month we look at 2025 makeup trends for mature skin.
Skin? I’m sure many of us have—for good or bad—indulged in fashion and makeup trends over the years. Did any of you wear any of the dresses or tops from the 1980s that had extremely padded shoulders? I certainly did and I even have a few articles of clothing from that era that I keep telling myself I’ll restyle, but it never seems to happen.
Upcoming 2025 Makeup Trends For Mature Skin:
Today I thought it would be fun to take a look at upcoming 2025 makeup trends and think about which of them—if any—might work for our mature skin.
Let’s start with our brows. Although I read on some sites that a subtle thin brow was making a comeback, other sites listed brow trends ranging from sun kissed, bleached brows to feathered brows, fluffy and laminated soap brows and bold statement brows. So it sounds like just about anything we do with our brows will fit into one of these many trends!
“There does seem to be some consensus that there will be a strong shift from more natural looking eye makeup to 80s glam eye makeup.”
There does seem to be some consensus that there will be a strong shift from more natural looking eye makeup to 80s glam eye makeup. But, there’s a definite range of thought as to what that a glam eye will specifically look like— I saw everything mentioned from pearly frosty eyeshadow textures to smokey, metallic or shimmery eyes.
The Best Product Options:
However, since the “one and done” shimmery wet eye look was mentioned most often as a way to create a glam look that’s also fast and easy to do, I’ll create that look on one of my eyes in the video. Probably the best product options are Urban Decay’s Moondust Singles, but I’ll use a Supershock Shadow from Colourpop.
And on the other eye I’m going to go with a metallic look. I’ll use a neutral shade from my NYX Ultimate Jean Baby palette in my crease and then on my lids I’ll combine two colors from Makeup By Mario’s “Master Metals” palette
The outlook for the 2025 complexion trends ranges from luminous looks to a marriage between a subtle glow and a matte finish—so, in essence this means a more satin look for the skin. That’s why I earlier applied The Beautiful Primer from Kjaer Weis to create a softer glow look and I’ll apply Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation which has a natural finish.
If I wanted to go with another trend that’s been mentioned quite a bit, I could create a frosty or pearly looking complexion look by adding a product such as Colourpop’s Super Shock Cheek Shade in “Flexitarian” or Rare Beauty’s highlighter shade “Enlighten. “
Cream And Liquid Blushes:
Over the last couple of years blush has really been everywhere. So there’s one school of thought that we’ll swing back to powder blush products which will be great for those of you with oily skin. For those of us with dry skin, we’ll definitely want to hang on to our cream and liquid blushes.
And it definitely looks like 2025 will bring a change to the blush colors we’ll be seeing most often. They’ll lean more toward the warm brown Pantone color of the year which is Mocha Mousse. So the blush spotlight might include warm browns, mauves or muted deeper colors. And the terms “blush touring” and “blonzer” have been mentioned as well which is a new way to apply the blush.
Rather than applying it as we normally would, we’d apply it as we’d apply a bronzer– to the high points of our face. With this application method we’d be tapping on blush to the middle of the forehead, the tops of the cheeks, the tip of the nose and the tip of the chin.

Frosty Metallic Shades:
As for lips, we’ll see lots of bold, darker lips looks in shades of plum, burgundy and especially dark cherry—especially in frosty metallic shades. The drugstore brand Wet and Wild has some great frosted shades including “Cherry Frost.” Another option would be to mix Milani’s “Pick Frost” with a deeper shade like Wet and Wild’s “Just Garnet.”
I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether any of these 2025 makeup trends might be ones you’d be interested in trying.
