Beauty Thought Leader: Elise Marquam-Jahns
Trying new makeup for mature skin over 50 can feel exciting and risky all at once—but the right products can deliver glow without settling into fine lines.
Mature skin has different needs, and we want makeup that enhances—not settles, streaks, or disappears. Today, I am reviewing two highly talked‑about launches to see if they really work for mature skin: the Makeup by Mario Soft Sculpt Bronzing and Shaping Serum and the Kosas Baked Dimensional Blush.
I also have a special bonus for you at the end: five cancer‑fighting snacks from Harvard‑trained researcher Dr. William Li. Stay tuned for those.
Makeup For Mature Skin Over 50:
Why I Was Curious About These Products
As a makeup artist who specializes in mature skin, I love it when brands innovate. I have admired Mario’s work for years. His Master Eye Prep & Set, Master Hold Brow Gel, and Soft Pop Powder Blush have been some of my favorites. I also enjoy many Kosas products and often reach for their Revealer Foundation and Revealer Concealer.
However, mature skin has specific needs. When new formulas launch, the big question is always:
Will it flatter—or make texture more obvious?
So I put both products to the test.
Makeup by Mario Soft Sculpt Bronzing and Shaping Serum Review
Mario describes this formula as lightweight, sheer, and natural. It comes in seven shades. I tested Fair, Light, and Light Medium. Fair was too light for me, so I applied Light on one side of my face and Light Medium on the other.
Here is what stood out:
- The texture melts into the skin. You barely touch it and it blends.
- It gives a soft sculpted effect without harsh lines.
- It feels completely mistake‑proof, especially for anyone nervous about contour or bronzer.
- The undertones are not clearly labeled, which may make shade selection tricky if you have cool undertones like I do.
Final impression:
If you love a natural bronze and want a product that blends effortlessly, this is a beautiful choice. If you prefer stronger pigment, you may want something with more depth.
Kosas Baked Dimensional Blush Review
Kosas released new talc‑free baked blushes in eight shades. They are enriched with squalane and hyaluronic acid and promise a soft, brightening flush.
I tested several shades and applied the formula two ways:
- Alone on one cheek
- Layered over cream blush on the other
What I found:
- Shades build gradually and blend smoothly
- Surprisingly flattering on dry mature skin
- No patchiness or settling into texture
- Layering over cream blush gives even better longevity and glow
Final impression:
This blush is a lovely option for mature skin. If your skin is very dry, you may prefer layering over cream for the most natural finish and staying power.
Bonus: 5 Cancer‑Fighting Snacks
I recently interviewed world‑renowned physician and researcher Dr. William Li, and he shared five snacks that support anti‑cancer pathways and metabolism:
- Pumpkin (including pumpkin seeds and purée)
- Soy
- Tomatoes
- Apples
- Green tea
Simple ingredients, big health benefits.
Whether you love a natural sculpt, a radiant blush, or simply want healthy-skin inspiration, I hope you found this helpful. Let me know in the comments what you are excited to try.
Wishing you good health, happiness, and a fabulous rest of your day.
