Should Midlife Women Show Skin?

Midlife Women Show Skin

Fashion Fridays, Kuel Life Thought Leader: Tracy Gold

Girlfriend, you and I know that as we age, we come into our prime. And still, we are plagued by the question: “Should I show skin?”

In midlife, we feel even better, even more ourselves, and care less what people think. So I’m going to share ways that you can easily show skin and feel fabulous if you aren’t doing it already. Midlife women can show skin.

“It’s not about it all hanging out, it’s rather to choose a piece and to delicately show it with style.”

One of the inspiring things that I have found about Italian women over 40 is that they are not afraid to show their skin, but they do tend to show skin one piece at a time. It’s not about it all hanging out, it’s rather to choose a piece and to delicately show it with style.

6 Ways To Show Skin – Italian Style:

1. Shoulders:

This is a great way to show skin and feel fabulous. It could be a one shoulder, it could be both shoulders, and that way you’re showing just enough to make it fun, but not so much that you feel you are flaunting too much.

2. The Cut-Out Look:

Don’t panic. I’m not talking about those dresses with cut outs in all the wrong places. In fact. it can be as simple as wearing high waisted pants and a cropped top that shows a sliver of skin in between. Or, a cut out top that reveals your shoulders. This could be a great look for a beach or pool party where people are already showing some skin.

3. Arms:

I know that upper arms are a big concern for women. Whether you are okay to show your upper arms or not, here are some tips:

  • No Shows: Lovely floaty flared 3/4 sleeves is a great option as the width of the sleeve makes your upper arm seem narrow in comparison. If the fabric is breathable it will be comfortable even in the heat.
  • Show Them: You can show your arms but detract attention from them by wearing styles that emphasize your shoulders or you can make them appear slimmer by wearing a cap flared sleeve that makes your upper arm seem narrow in comparison. (I have an article about this topic coming up soon.)
4. Legs:

If you’re comfortable with your legs, then you can show them. Whether you are okay to show above the knee, on the knee, or just below it, it’s all about your comfort level. If you don’t love the texture of the skin on your legs, you can opt for wearing leggings under shorter dresses and skirts. This is going to be a big trend going forward. One I’m happy about as it’s so practical!

I agree, Elise. Why don’t we wear bikinis out the next time we hang? (Just kidding, by the way). But, I do agree that we can and should show skin – if we wanna.
