Blueprint Breaker: Amy Palmer
Last month, I highlighted 5 Ways Podcasting Has Changed My Life.
5 Easy Steps On How To Start A Podcast:
The world of podcasting is booming, and for good reason! It’s a fantastic way to share your passions, connect with listeners, and even build a community. But where do you begin? Today I am going to break it down into five easy steps.
1. Find Your Focus:
Every podcast needs a strong central theme. What are you passionate about? Is there a specific niche you can fill? In my case, it was more about who I wanted to serve: midlife blueprint breakers. Women who were living a life outside the traditional societal norm. But you literally could start a podcast about any interest, passion, or mission you have!

2. Format the Fun:
How do you want to format your show? Will it be a solo show where you share your expertise and thoughts? Maybe an interview format where you chat with fascinating guests? A combination of both? Guess what- you can change your mind and your format whenever you wish!
3. Gear Up (But Not Out):
You don’t need a fancy studio to launch your podcast. I started with just my laptop, no special microphone or headphones. I even recorded some early episodes from my car, using my iphone. When I was ready for a slight upgrade that wouldn’t break the bank, I purchased this microphone and these headphones.

4. Find Your Hosting Platform & Post-Production Tools:
Think of your podcast host as your online home. I use Spotify for Podcasters because it is super easy to use and it’s free. You simply upload your recording and set it up to be distributed on all the major podcast platforms.
I use Zoom to record my episodes (and Riverside.fm when producing clients podcasts). In the beginning, my podcast was audio-only and I didn’t do any editing at all. As I became more experienced, I added a youtube channel and I use the easiest editing tool I’ve ever seen.
5. Spread the Word!
Let the world know your podcast exists! Social media is a great launchpad. Create eye-catching cover art and a captivating description to grab attention. I use Descript and Canva to create Instagram reels, Facebook and LinkedIn posts.
Bonus Tip: Embrace the Journey!
Podcasting is an ongoing adventure. Don’t be afraid to experiment, refine your approach, and learn from other creators. Most importantly, have fun with it!
