It’s My Time Now: Kavita Ahuja
As I approach my 58th birthday this week, I have reflected on why I am doing what I do. I encourage you to do that too. Sometimes we live on autopilot – but it’s so important to really reflect on why we do the things we do.
Reinvent Your Life Starting Now:
I am here because I reinvented myself after the age of 50, and my entire reason for being is to tell you that if you really want to – you can too! You can reinvent your life starting now. It is possible, and I am going to tell you exactly how to do that here. Remember – reinvention doesn’t mean giving up everything and starting over. It’s about taking what is already inside of you, and bringing it out with confidence!
The most common struggles which I hear from my clients are these:
- Uncertainty
- Fear
- Confusion
- Lack of excitement
Does that feel like you right now? I know exactly how you feel my friend, because I felt that too, many years ago. I’m here to tell you, however, that this is not the end. This is not a dead end. This is the start of something absolutely incredibly new and exciting!
“Remember – reinvention doesn’t mean giving up everything and starting over.“
10 Steps On How To Reinvent Your Life After 50:
Do you believe me? Do you believe that is even possible?
Here are the 10 steps I followed, and that you can follow too, to reinvent your life starting now:
1. Recognize The Trigger That Is Causing You To Pause:
Congratulate yourself for acknowledging the presence of this inner voice or flame burning inside of you. Don’t lie to yourself. There must be something inside of you that is telling you that things are not quite right. I often talk about that little voice inside of me which I didn’t heed for a long time. But her voice got so loud that I couldn’t ignore it anymore. So first thing is – do you recognize that things need to change?
2. Acknowledge Where You Are And How Far You Have Come On This Road Of Life:
I love this quote from Mel Robbins who says, “You are never starting over, you are starting from experience”. You have done so much and have unique qualities that only you possess. Celebrate yourself! At the same time, however, ask yourself: Are you languishing, are you in survival mode or on autopilot or cruise control in your life? Why? Does your life excite you anymore? No? If not, do something about it!
3. Ask Yourself: Why Is This Inner Voice Here? Should I Ignore It, Or Do Something About It?
Is the pain of staying where you are greater than the fear of making a change? It is natural to feel nervous about what lies ahead because it is a road you haven’t traveled yet. You are so used to doing what you are doing – like I did – for 20 years no less, that the thought of doing something different is probably scaring you to death. That is perfectly normal.
4. Do Not Regret The Journey You’ve Been On:
Every twist and turn in your life has led you to the point you are at right now – it all happened for a reason and you may not understand it yet, but you will see it is true. The triggers or detours in our life were meant to be – hard to hear if you are experiencing heartache or financial pain – loss of job, loss of a relationship, or a loss of health. But these are all triggers and signals to learn from.
“Every twist and turn in your life has led you to the point you are at right now – it all happened for a reason…”
5. Ask Yourself – Who am I? What Are My Biggest Strengths, My Greatest Passions, And What Do I Value The Most?
Is your current life aligned with all those things? Do you think that you can’t possibly follow your passions or do what you are really good at, or do something which aligns with your values? You absolutely can! When all these things are aligned, that is when you open up all the possibilities ahead of you. You have found your Ikigai, or reason for being. That is when you are ready to take the next steps.
6. Energize The Present Moment:
Energize the present with positive things in your life which releases positive or anabolic energy. What do you love to do? Add a bit of that in every day. What possibilities excite you? Write them down and reflect on them. Who are you surrounded by? Where do you want to live? Can you visualize yourself in two years, for example? The reason you don’t feel energized or excited about life is because you haven’t given yourself the opportunity to dream. Dream big.
7. Write Down What Fears You Have That Are Stopping You:
Are they real? Or are they created in your mind? Write all the possible blocks down which are in your way. That is the only way to begin tearing those blocks down, one by one. Those blocks are created in your own mind and they are there for a reason: To keep you safe, in that box that you have been in up till now. You don’t need protection anymore, my friend, you’ve got this!
8. Where Do You Want To Go?
What are you going to do which aligns with your strengths, passions and values? Now that you know your Ikigai or reason for being – and how will you fulfill that? The answers will easily come to you, via uncanny things that happen to you, people you meet, coincidences that happen. When you know yourself deeply, you will immediately know what you want, and the rest is easy.
9. Once You’ve Got A Vision For Who You Want To Be And What You Want To Do, Plan It:
When you plan a vacation – doesn’t that make you happy and excited to look forward to that vacation? Why can’t you plan your life the same way? Do you need to learn new skills? Do you need to let go of people in your life that don’t serve you? Do you need to move away from the environment you’re in? The only way to know what to do next, is by starting where you are, and looking forward with anticipation and eagerness. Not regret for what has passed.
“You don’t have to give up everything all at once.“
10. And Finally – Always, Always, Be Open To Possibilities:
Be open to receiving the signals around you. Be aware that when you figure out what you want through this process and ask for it – it has already happened. The rest is just logistics. If you truly believe that your life ahead of you can be everything you wish it to be, then it will be. It is about believing, having faith and trusting in yourself and the universe will bring it to you. I promise.
You Can Reinvent Your Life Today:
I often hear from people that they can’t possibly do what is really in their hearts because circumstances of life will not allow them to. They can’t afford it, they have to pay bills, they have to look after their kids, they have to be realistic. These are all true, and valid concerns. But – would you rather languish in your life, or take the pieces that excite you, and take daily steps to get you to where you want to be?
You don’t have to give up everything all at once. Figure out how you can incorporate even small things into your life now that will make you excited and happy. Do more of those. That will bring positive energy into your life so you can plan how to bring more and more of that into your life, and before you know it – that vision for yourself will be achieved. But enjoy the path to get there.
I am still learning. Every single day. I listened to my inner voice. I was scared to death, but I did it anyway. I’m here as a testament to the fact that despite your fears, or judgment from others, or every cell of your being telling you that it’s not possible – that it IS possible. You can reinvent your life today. All you need to do is celebrate yourself, this present moment, and look forward with eagerness and excitement. The rest will follow.
