KUELLIFE: What type of business do you run?
Pat: I am a solopreneur – My Boomer Brain/author/speaker/consultant/Coach
KUELLIFE: What prompted you to start your company & what keeps you there?
Pat: My Boomer Brain was started in 2015 as a response to the lack of knowledge about brain health and the brain-healthy lifestyle. This is my passion project because I am in the fight to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
“This is my passion project because I am in the fight to prevent Alzheimer’s disease..“
KUELLIFE: What’s your biggest struggle?
Pat: Throughout the years, I have always been ahead of the curve in the knowledge I possessed about the benefits of aromatherapy and the ability to change our brains to prevent dementia.
I have approached companies/ corporations about implementing brain health as part of their wellness programs. As I learned however, education doesn’t pay the bills. There has been more interest in the senior community but there are little funds to support my speaking engagements. I learned that everyone loves what I have to say but no one wants to pay me what it is worth.
Horrific Migraine Headaches:
KUELLIFE:: What is the biggest fear about your career? How do you work through it?
Pat: Years ago, when I started going out to work with aromatherapy and brain health programs, I worked so hard to make it happen that I had horrific migraine headaches. I was in my mid-fifties then. I was interviewing two spiritual healers to recruit to work at an integrative health fair and I had a horrible headache.
They both knew it and asked me why I was pushing so hard. I told them that I thought I was aging out and I hadn’t accomplished any of my goals. That is why I was having the horrible headaches. Their advice was for me to relax because I had plenty of time.
“It is frustrating to see all these younger people have so much success and I still haven’t been able to break through.”
But I still have that fear. Aromatherapy and brain health are very hot topics these days. It is frustrating to see all these younger people have so much success and I still haven’t been able to break through.
Now I am driven to make an impact with the Boomer generation because we are at a higher risk of developing dementia. Age is a nonmodifiable risk factor for the disease. That is why I wrote The Boomer Brain.
Patricia’s Sharing Her Knowledge:
KUELLIFE: How do you measure your success?
Pat: Whenever someone comes up to me and thanks me for sharing my knowledge. I know I helped someone.
KUELLIFE: What career advice would you give other women in midlife and beyond?
Pat: Find your passion and purpose. There are so many years left post retirement. Love what you do. If you have a vision – live that vision. It may not look like anything you have done before. But it is so fulfilling.
