Small Space Fitness: Cat Corchado
Treating your body as a gift in midlife changes how you move, train, and care for yourself, especially when you stop approaching your body as a project that needs fixing.
How Treating Your Body as a Gift in Midlife Changes the Way You Move
Hi everyone. This is Cat Corchado, your Movement Specialist, and welcome to the Kuel Life vlog for December.
I want to talk about something I think many of us do without even realizing it. We take our bodies for granted. We rarely stop to thank our bodies for what they can do. Instead, we treat them like projects.
So today, I want to talk about a shift that has been changing things for me.
My body isn’t a project. It’s a gift.
Treating the Body Like a Fixer-Upper
You know the mindset. Treating the body like a fixer-upper. Always under construction. Always needing one more improvement. One more tweak. One more upgrade. Always waiting for some imaginary grand reveal.
I was basically living inside the HGTV version of myself. Coming up next on Flip This Body. Can she finish her course drink before the commercial break?
But here is the truth I am learning slowly, gently, and yes, sometimes stubbornly.
My body does not need to be flipped, renovated, or upgraded to be worthy. It already has value. It already has history. It already has stories that deserve honoring, not hiding. And when it comes to fitness and wellness, this mindset changes everything.
Body Acceptance in Midlife
Think about how you receive a gift. You receive it with appreciation. You do not unwrap it and immediately point out all the things that are wrong with it or how it could be a better gift.
And if you do, then we need to talk.
Oh, I love this. But could it come with longer legs and a faster metabolism?
When you see your body as a gift, you start to treat it differently. You move from criticism to curiosity. From pressure to partnership. From fix this to how can I support you today?
Some days that looks like a strong workout. Some days it looks like a walk. And some days, yes, it looks like stretching on the floor while negotiating with your hamstrings like they are toddlers refusing to nap.
Moving With Kindness Instead of Punishment
Here is what I have been practicing.
Moving with kindness, not punishment.
Listening instead of forcing.
Letting strength feel like gratitude instead of pressure.
Why does this matter? When we treat our bodies like projects, they become endless to-do lists. There is always something to fix or improve. And can I say it? It is exhausting.
But when you treat your body like the gift it is, you show up with more love, more patience, and more joy. You move from I have to, to I get to.
That shift alone has changed my workouts, my wellness routines, and honestly, my peace.
A Simple Invitation to Practice Gratitude
So now it is your turn.
I want to invite you to take one moment today and thank your body. You can do it out loud. You can do it quietly. You can do it right now.
Even if your body is not perfect.
Even if it is healing.
Even if it is aging.
Even if it is aching. Yes, ma’am.
Even if it surprises you in new and creative ways every morning.
You do not have to love every part of it today. But you can start by receiving it just as it is.
Because your body is not a project. It is a gift. And a gift deserves care, gratitude, and a little celebration along the way.
Body Gratitude for Women Over 50
That is what is on my heart today. If this resonated, share it with someone who might need this reminder. And if your body cooperates today, give it a little stretch or a little wiggle just because you can.
Until next time, I’m Cat Corchado, your Movement Specialist.
