Beauty Expert: Elise Marquam-Jahns
I think most of us really enjoy sharing our favorite makeup products, but the products I’ll be sharing with you today may be a little different for one major reason: you may never have heard of many of these brands.
But all of these products are really wonderful for those of us with mature skin so I’m excited to share them with you.
Now I do know that many of you are incredibly savvy about makeup and are very knowledgeable about a huge range of beauty products and brands. But, I have a hunch that perhaps two or three of these brands might be new to you. At least I hope a few of these brands will be fun surprises for you because they’re all really good
Eye Shadow Base:
So let’s first jump into focusing on eyes. I’m sure some of you are familiar with the brand I’m going to be using for eye primer if you watch the QVC home shopping network. Makeup artist Mally Roncal is a long-time fixture on QVC. I particularly love her Eye Shadow Base which is a product I use in my makeup kit when I work with clients.
“They’re meant to brighten both the eyelid and the under-eye area.”
This particular product is no longer being sold separately, but she does have a product called Perfect Prep Brightening Shadow Base Duo which includes two eye primers: one matte and one shimmer and it comes in two different color combinations.
They’re meant to brighten both the eyelid and the under-eye area. She recommends using the matte formula under the eyes and the shimmer OR matte can be used on the eyelids.
Eye Shadow Makeup That Has A Knockout Combination:
So now let’s move on to eye shadow. This is my favorite eye shadow from another makeup artist’s makeup line which is on QVC. It’s the Ultimate Eve Shadow from Eve Pearl’s line of products.
The bone, brown and black colors are matte and the gold, green and pink have a little shimmer. What I love about this palette is that I don’t think any of us would necessarily put this particular color combination together, but it’s a knockout combination. And, it’s very highly pigmented.
In the video, I’m going to apply it the way Eve Pearl suggests applying it. And by the way, I think you’d really enjoy watching Eve talk about this palette and demonstrate it, so here’s a link to a video on QVC which shows her demonstrating this palette. And I also love using Eve Pearl’s brush to apply the eyeshadow. It’s number 207 and it’s her Liner/Highlighter Brush.
Wonderful Self-Sharpening Eyeliner:
The first step with the eye shadow is to apply the lightest color all over the lids. Then, she recommends dipping into the black and then the green and applying that combination along the outer half of the eyelid for eyeliner.
Next, she applies the brown with the green as eyeliner on the inner part of the lid. Then she uses what’s leftover on the brush to create the outer V in the crease that connects with the eyeliner. The next step involved using the larger end of the brush to dip into the pink color and brush it over the outer part of the lid and along the outer V/Crease area. Then she dips that same end of the brush into the gold and puts it in the center of the eyelid.
“I can always go over it with the black or brown eyeshadow to soften the look or cover any mistakes.”
Black Eyeliner:
The lightest color is next applied on the inner part of the eyelid. For the last step, she likes to apply a thin line of black eyeliner close to the lashes. In the video, I’m using a really wonderful self-sharpening Doll 10 eyeliner right along my upper lash line.
And, I can always go over it with the black or brown eyeshadow to soften the look or cover any mistakes. I do love the fact that this Doll 10 eyeliner is self-sharpening. All you need to do is screw the top on and off to sharpen the pencil.
Minimalist Clean Mascara Makeup:
Next comes mascara. The mascara I’m going to use is one which I mentioned when I did an entire video focusing on a brand new, minimalist clean beauty brand called Merit. And here’s a link to that video if you’d like to learn more about this brand.
Merit has a tubing mascara called Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara that works really well for sensitive eyes. It’s meant to define, separate and lengthen lashes and it doesn’t smudge.
Primer Moisturizing Treatment:
The next step is my face primer and I’m using one I really love from Eve Pearl because it’s so moisturizing. It’s her Primer Moisturizing Treatment that helps diminish the look of pores and fine lines and also has a cosmenutrient ingredient called Astaxanthin.
It doesn’t feel the least bit slippery on the face as some primers do. In fact, it feels really wonderful– and you just need a small amount.
Dual Foundation Makeup That Feels Very Lightweight:
The foundation I’m going with is Eve Pearl’s HD Dual Foundation. It’s a cream foundation which I frankly thought I’d never wear because I’ve always thought cream foundations were a bit heavy feeling.
“Most of us do need a slightly darker shade during the summer.”
But this cream foundation feels very lightweight and I love the fact that it’s really buildable from light to heavier coverage. What I also love is that in this one foundation compact, there’s both a lighter and a darker shade. Having this lighter color makes it possible to adjust the color of the foundation depending on the time of year. Most of us do need a slightly darker shade during the summer.
Or, the light color can also be used as a light contour shade. It comes in six shades, is nongreasy, provides a matte finish and of all the foundation I have, it provides the best coverage.
Color-Correcting Concealer:
For concealer, I’m using Eve Pearl’s Dual Salmon Concealer which has a color-correcting color on one side and a second color which is a slightly lighter color than the foundation on the other side and comes in six shades.
To contour, I’m going to use the darker side of the Eve Pearl Foundation in Tan. It works really well as a contour and glides on beautifully.
Cream Blush Palette:
For blush, I’m going to share with you several cream blush options from four different brands. This first one is a staple in my makeup kit. It’s RCMA’s Cream Blush Palette. RCMA stands for Research Council of Makeup Artists. The palette has five colors, but these colors can be purchased individually through some sites.
They’re very wearable shades and they glide on very easily. In the video I swatch these five colors because as you’ll see, some work best on warm undertones and some work best on cool undertones.
“These are not only beautiful colors but they apply more quickly and easily than any other blush product I have.”
Seven Different Cream Blush Colors:
Next are blushes from three different clean beauty brands: RMS, Ilia and Merit. RMS has seven different cream blush colors including “Demure” and “Modest” which I swatch in the video and which can be used on cheeks or lips. Ilia also has a product called Multi Sticks which can also be used on both cheeks and lips.
The Multi sticks come in 8 shades and I swatch two of them in the video: At Last and Ladybird. But my favorite clean beauty brand blush that you may never have heard of is from Merit: it’s their Flush Balm Cream Blush which comes in five colors. In addition to Cheeky (which is pink) and Raspberry Beret (which is deeper pink), there’s also a gorgeous terracotta, soft peach color and burgundy.
These are not only beautiful colors but they apply more quickly and easily than any other blush product I have.
Two Different Highlighters:
I have two different highlighters to share with you: one from Laura Geller who’s on QVC and one from a company called ybf which is on HSN. The Laura Geller highlighters are called her Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators. They apply like a powder but feel like a cream.
As of the date of this writing, there are five colors on sale on her website: Peach Glow, Gilded Honey, Diamond Dust, Ballerina and Charming Pink. In the video I’m using the ybf crème illuminator which applies beautifully and also provides a lovely, medium glow.
Ultimate Lip Palette Makeup:
And finally, let’s take a look at some beautiful lipsticks and glosses. Eve Pearl has an Ultimate Lip Palette which has a beautiful array of eighteen colors. In the video I’m going to apply some concealer and my L’Oreal Age Perfect lipliner, and then I’m going to apply a gorgeous fuchsia color from Ilia called Knockout.
On top of the Ilia product, I’m going to combine a couple of the Eve Pearl colors called Vampire Kiss and Baby Doll. Then for my gloss, I’m going with a gorgeous gloss palette from a company called Three Custom Color Specialists. They have a Favorites gloss palette and one called Perfectly Pink. I’m going to go with one from the Perfectly Pink Palette.
So we now have a completed look– and I frankly love all of these products I shared with you today that are from not-so-well-known brands. I hope you’ll have fun experimenting with some of these lesser-known brands as well.
