I hear it all the time… “it hurts my shoulders whenever i do push ups”. Most people my age will skip push ups all together because they are scared to injure themselves with improper form!! Not anymore, i’m going to show you how to do a perfect push-up:-)!!
- First: Set your hands about shoulder-width apart, with fingers facing forward.
- Second: Place your feet directly behind you in a plank. (The further apart your feet are, the more stable you will be until you’re able to build your balance up to where you can have your feet closer together). *also you can always start on your knees if you would like.
- Third: Create a straight line with your body from head to toe (your butt should be in line… not dipping below or rising above). You abs should be engaged, neck in neutral spine, and your shoulders are over your wrists.
- Fourth: With glutes and abs contracted, slowly lower your body until your chest touches (or comes close) to the ground. Let your elbows fall behind you using more tricep. In other words, don’t let your elbow swing out to the sides and overuse your neck. A push-up is about the chest shoulders and arms not your neck!
And there you have it!! A perfect push-up
