I want to share with you today an every-day makeup look for those of us with mature skin. And the best part is that it can be created very inexpensively using just one really good drugstore brand: Physicians Formula.
Drugstore Makeup Look For Mature Women:
In this article and the accompanying video, I’ll be working with the huge collection of products that has been put together in one special edition case: the Ultimate Murumuru Butter Collection. This collection contains all 58 of Physicians Formula Butter Collection products. It has 8 bronzers, 7 blushes, 7 highlights, 24 eye shadows, 12 lipsticks and a mirror. So the only other products you’d need to complete a look is an eyebrow product (although you could use one of the eyeshadows as eyebrow powder), mascara, powder, foundation and lip liner if you use lip liner.
Often in these types of collections, a brand will only include limited edition products that aren’t part of their regular makeup line. But this is a very rare case where you have absolutely every product from their regular butter collection. This collection of products originally appeared over the Holidays and was labeled “Limited Edition”. But, as of the day I’m writing this article, this collection is still available on the Physicians Formula website for a rather amazing price of only $39.99.
Now of course this collection certainly isn’t travel friendly. So, having a place to store it might be challenging. But, it is an incredible value. One other thing you’ll want to be aware of is that these products are definitely scented, so if you do have sensitivity to fragrance, you may not want to invest in any products from this butter collection.
Watch How It’s Done:
Start With The Eyes:
“Most of the eye shadows do blend together very well”
In the video, I’ve already applied eye primer and my eyebrow products. I’ll apply my foundation after I do my eyeshadow. So, I’m starting with the eye shadow. The matte eyeshadows in this collection have a very buttery, soft texture which glide on beautifully. You’ll definitely want to tap off any excess from your brush since they’re very pigmented and a little powdery. Most of the eye shadows do blend together very well except for just a few colors which don’t apply as easily or smoothly. These colors need to be applied with a wet brush or with setting spray to get good color payoff.
Bronzer And Blush:
“It’s always best to apply powder over powder and liquid over liquid products”
In the video, I’ve applied just a very small amount of light translucent powder over my face. Next, I’ll apply powder bronzer, powder blush and powder highlighter over my liquid foundation. (It’s always best to apply powder over powder and liquid over liquid products). I’m using the really beautiful shades “Bronzer” and “Sculpting Bronzer” from this collection.
Next, it’s on to blush. There are seven different blushes and I’m applying the “Rosy Pink” blush shade on the middle of my cheekbone area and sweeping it up toward my temple. I’m also adding the “Saucy Mauve” shade over it. To further highlight my cheeks, I’m applying the “Pink” highlighter to the tops of my cheekbones and topping it with the “Pearl” highlighter. These are absolutely gorgeous shades which blend together beautifully.
Luscious Lips:
Because the lip formula is somewhat sheer, it’s necessary to build them up on your lips to get more color payoff. When you do this they become a thicker balm consistency. Or, you can dab on just a little color for a sheerer application of these lipsticks. They are definitely hydrating and feel wonderful on the lips. If you have issues with lipstick feathering or migrating, you’ll certainly need to use a lip liner—and possibly concealer around the edge of your lips– before applying the lip liner and then one of the lipsticks.
Also, one thing to be aware of with these lip products is that the darker and brighter colors will leave a stain on your lips for awhile. Because I definitely have an issue with lipstick feathering into fine lines around my mouth, I’m applying a concealer and then my L’Oreal Age Perfect Lip Liner in “Bold Orchid.” And by the way, I’ve really come to love these L’Oreal Age Perfect lip liners since they really do help prevent lipstick from finding and migrating into those vertical lines around our lips.
What’s To Love:
“They are butter-smooth and absolutely glide on”
So just for a quick recap about this Physicians Formula “Ultimate Murumuru Butter” collection of butter products. I especially love the bronzers, blushes and highlighters. They are butter-smooth and absolutely glide on so you’re far more assured of a really flawless, natural look. As far as the eyeshadows are concerned, I love the fact that it’s easy to layer any of these colors. I especially like the matte eyeshadows. They’re very pigmented, apply super easily, and blend well. And the black is one of the deepest blacks I’ve ever seen. But there are a few shades that are definitely more challenging to apply. Use a wet brush to apply them—or mist a brush with some setting spray. This will make the application process easier.
As far as the lipsticks go, I tend to prefer a stronger lip color, so these lipsticks do take a little more work to build them up so you have a thicker coat of lipstick. But they’re a breeze to just pat on for a lovely sheer look. There’s a nice range of both warm and cool colors which are really lovely. And, I’m really glad they included some deeper, bolder colors along with the softer, lighter colors. There’s definitely a beautiful color here for just about everyone. Overall, I would definitely give this drugstore makeup look for mature women collection high marks for the beautiful color range and options and the ease of application.
