In Kuel Life’s September article, you may have noticed that 2021 is my year to connect to me.
Along with Autophagy, there is another new word in my vocabulary – Fascia. It may have taken me nearly sixty years on the planet to connect to fascias gifts. If it were not for Saskia, I would probably be none the wiser.Â

Saskia:
Before I met Saskia, I had a visit with my local white witch. Vicky is an Osteopath by profession, yet so much more, and her magic always inspires. My husband usually visits once a year for a revision session and always comes out ten years younger. I frequent more often.Â
Over the years, my back has plagued my life. Pain that stops you in your tracks and the fear to even breathe becomes all too real. The pain sears through every inch of your body, creating tears that flow without care. Even your comfy bed is a nightmare scene as you know if you get in, you will never get out.Â
Yes, I have had x-rays, bone scans, MRI scans, been given cortisol injections, and pain killers until I rattled and had anaphylactic episodes. As well as the medical professionals, I connected to alternative therapies, Tai Chi, acupuncture, massage, breathwork, and personal development, to name but a few. A costly external search for relief in both time and energy.Â
Vicky announced, the issue was neither bones nor muscles but my fascia and I knew I was on a new adventure of possibilities. As synchronicity is everywhere, a quick pronouncement on Facebook and a friend connected me to a friend, leading me down the fascia fissure.Â

What Is Fascia?
For those who have never connected to their fascia before, let me explain what I know so far. Fascia is the elastic stocking of the body, and it looks like a giant multidimensional cobweb. It is both a connective and protective framework. Fascia encloses, separates and supports everything inside the body, just below the skin.Â
Fascia is the largest organ of the body and the most sensitive. When it has knots or restrictions in one area, you will probably notice pain in another. When the fascia is aligned and working effectively, the rest of your body also has a chance.Â
For example, if you sleep in the fetus position curled up, your fascia shortens and contracts. Regularly sleeping in the fear pose means your internal organs are restricted and confined, unable to function correctly. Hours, days, and months of sleeping crimped impedes not just getting out of bed with ease. Bad posture can also lead to long term issues for the whole body.Â
Yet we are in luck as fascia is also very forgiving. The more we engage it, the more it will realign back towards its original shape. Yet, it is always advisable to work with someone who has intimate knowledge of the fascia – this is where Saskia comes into the story.

Who Is Saskia And What Is Realign?
I have known about Saskia for many years, yet we had never connected. I am a firm believer that the teacher shows when the student is ready to learn. And I was ready.Â
Saskia grew up enjoying extreme sports and horses – she knows all about pain. Her drive to find a solution took her around the world. Saskia’s work combines over 14 years of learning from Eastern and Western philosophies, yoga, meditation, massage, Bowspring and tensegrity, breathwork, quantum physics, and sacred geometry. Â
From all Saskia learned from the experts, she has created the simplest method of alleviating pain. Realign has three main components, the centre, the root, and the length. The practice of Realigning increases self-awareness of posture, sensitivity, strength, fluidity and creates feelings of lightness. Realigning in this way also leads to an increase in mental focus, self-knowing, self-acceptance, and patience.
Saskia is now based in Ibiza, just a two-hour ferry ride from my home, yet with the aid of modern technology, she offers online training around the world. The personal one-on-one sessions mean there is nowhere to hide and everything is specific to your needs.Â

My Fascia:
Saskia and I began with an hour Realignment session on Zoom from the comfort of my own home. I had no idea what to expect. As I stood on my yoga mat, and Saskia watched and spoke, I went down a new rabbit hole of discovery. My body suddenly had a place within the universe, both inside and out. A space I had never been aware of before. With careful guidance, I twisted my body into simple movements and stretching unknown.Â
Within 60 minutes, I was not only sweating and energized but hooked. So much so, the next week, I found myself at Saskia’s retreat centre in Ibiza on Nature’s Way Retreat, totally immersed in the process of learning and Realigning.Â
Realign Method:
Using the Realign method, in just a few moments throughout the day. I connect to the ground, lift and open my rib cage and push up the popo muscle to support my back (yes, another new word for me too). When using a chair, I adjust my skin and frame, and for the first time in my life, I can sit comfortably without the flesh on the back of my short legs going numb!
I now get to connect, experiment, and go on a body adventure every day. Do I suffer from pain? Yes, sometimes, yet I am no longer afraid. I listen, connect to the space within and without, adjust and realign. I am so grateful that I get to do this for the rest of my life.Â
