“Breathe & believe with grace & ease through trust & surrender in the power of prayers & positivity.” -Nina Obier
Sounds like a good way to look at life right?
When you hear that statement, especially in light of the past 18 months or so, what reaction do you have?
Do you believe that words spoken repeatedly change your outlook? Or, do you believe it’s all a bunch of crap?
The Power Of Words:
The full statement I opened with stemmed from two words (phrases) I’ve been saying at different times of my life under different circumstances.
Looking at it together though really is how I managed to sell our home of 19 years (twice) during a pandemic. Then, move to a small town in another state, all while not skipping a beat in my business.
I am not sharing this story to impress you. I’m sharing it to impress upon you the power of words and the energy behind them. It can cause you either great joy or great pain.
“Truth be told I thought there’s no way he’s serious, there’s no way I am moving so I’ll just let him have fun exploring.”
The Spring Of 2019:
Our journey really started 12/18/2018 when my husband, praise the Lord, retired from Federal Law Enforcement. As we were traveling like crazy in the spring of 2019 to enjoy every moment of our daughter’s senior year of college softball my husband started to look on realtor.com in South Carolina.
Truth be told I thought there’s no way he’s serious. There’s no way I am moving. I’ll just let him have fun exploring. It gave us something to do while visiting our daughter and talk about on the long drives from South Florida to South Carolina.
After our daughter graduated, she decided to stay in South Carolina and we went to help her get settled in August 2019. That weekend we came upon a new build community in a small town. Let’s just say my husband was “sold” on the builder. He was so excited about their concept of his and her garages. He would be able to build out his dream of a woodworking shop!
The Quest To Find Land:
I continued to humor him. I knew I had leverage as we wanted land. And we did not want to be in a planned community where the houses were close together. Not to mention being governed by another homeowners association.
“Truth be told I really wasn’t on board.”
When we came to celebrate New Year’s in SC, we continued the quest to find land to build with this builder. By this point, my husband was so far into this he was going to try to convince me to go into the planned community. Truth be told I really wasn’t on board. Even though my husband was clearing out our South Florida home, painting, ripping out carpet, and more.
Then in January 2020, a house came on the market, in the small town, from our builder. A resale on five acres. We sent our daughter to facetime us. The price was amazing and just like that, we placed an offer. Well so did nine other people. We did our last best offer and waited only to be passed up.
A Piece Of Land And Power Of Belief:
You can imagine, after agreeing to that, that I was consenting to the move. Fast forward to the first weekend in March 2020. We put our house on the market, left town for a softball reunion in SC, and by a total God-incidence found a piece of land to make an offer on.
Do you know what happened a few days later? Lockdown.
The excitement drowned out by uncertainty was real. For the record, five days before closing on our home in South Florida the deal fell through.
Guess what? After 24 hours of crying, screaming, doubt, we decided to move anyways. One month later our home sold for $11,000 more!
“Breathe & believe with grace and ease through trust and surrender in the power of prayers and positivity.”
The Power Of Prayers And Positivity:
What’s the point? Why did I start by saying these powerful words? “Breathe & believe with grace and ease through trust and surrender in the power of prayers and positivity.” These words separately got me through this adventure.
You see I’ve learned through 11 years of brain training that the mind is a powerful muscle. We can build that muscle for good or bad, right or wrong. The message I need you to hear is that the part of the brain that matches your outcomes doesn’t even know the difference between what’s real and imagined.
Breathe And Believe:
In the early stages of this journey prayers & positivity served me as I humored my husband.
When we made our first offer, trust & surrender were vibrating through my bones.
When we found land, I remember repeating breathe & believe and power of prayers.
Honestly, when the deal fell through on the sale of our home the first time, I caught myself feeling fear and saying things that were not going to serve the situation. Within 24 hours I was pulling out all the phrases but the one that got me the most aligned and gave me peace was grace & ease through the power of prayers.
I ask you once again, do you believe that words spoken repeatedly can change your outlook? Or, do you believe it’s all a bunch of crap?
