Welcome Lesley McShane To Kuel Life:
KUELLIFE: What type of business do you own/run?
Lesley: I have a multi-faceted business – mainly because in my midlife I am interested in doing so many things and helping as many other women as possible. I am an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and lead women to better fitness and nutrition through my online course “Midlife in Motion” as well as in my 1:1 coaching.
But I am also the podcast host of Redesigning Midlife, where I talk about the importance of prioritizing your health and wellness in midlife in order to live happier today and longer tomorrow. I have authored two books and am currently working on my second book of affirmations. Affirmations have always inspired me to do better and be better and so I love being able to do that for other women as well.
“A blog was started, then the podcast, and finally a plan to make this direction a viable business.”
Lesley’s Inner-Struggle:
KUELLIFE: What prompted you or drove you to become an entrepreneur? When?
Lesley: As I neared my 50s, I felt a real inner-struggle to change things up. As a creative in my career, I wanted to combine that creativity with my love of fitness and background as a competitive athlete. A blog was started, then the podcast, and finally a plan to make this direction a viable business.
KUELLIFE: What’s your biggest struggle?
Lesley: My biggest struggle, but also my mission, is to get through to all the midlife women out there that it is never too late to look and feel your absolute best. Being healthy doesn’t mean being skinny. Being healthy means doing what you can through daily choices to prepare your body for today, tomorrow, and 10 years from now.
KUELLIFE: What is your biggest fear as an entrepreneur? How do you work through it?
Lesley: My biggest fear as an entrepreneur is obviously failure. No one wants to fail. You have to push through the hard as you never know when the breakthrough will happen. But you also have to measure realistically when the effort is too much for you and be willing to pivot or shut it down altogether and live to fight another day.
“The second way I measure success is through feedback from the women I’ve worked with.”
My Second Chapter Of Life:
KUELLIFE: How do you measure your success?
Lesley: I measure success in two ways. The first is in goal setting and goal-reaching. I set yearly and monthly goals, as well as, daily intentions. All of these things are meant to keep me moving forward. When I look back over a day, month, year I can see how far I’ve come and that gives me the faith to set even bigger goals.
The second way I measure success is through feedback from the women I’ve worked with. My mission, in my second chapter of life, is to help as many women as possible realize the power they have within. When I hear from someone that they have gotten something out of one of my podcasts or blogs, have hit a weight/measurement goal, feel stronger, or bounced back more quickly from injury because of our work together – that is what keeps me going and in the knowledge that I am doing what I’m supposed to do.
Say YES To Opportunities:
KUELLIFE: Finally, what advice would you give other women about taking an entrepreneurial path?
Lesley: My advice for other women is to just try. If you’ve been thinking about doing something or about serving others in your own business, do it. Don’t wait. You don’t want to get 10-20 years down the road and regret not doing it. Say YES to opportunities when they show up. It will never be the right time. You won’t have enough money. You just have to say YES anyway. Go share your gift with others. They are waiting for you.
